July 2023 - Can AI express human emotions?

This series of portraits was created to explore whether artificial intelligence can effectively express human emotions through portraiture. We began by using the MidJourney tool to generate a base image of a female model, whom we named Kayla. From there, we tasked the AI with interpreting and expressing ten different emotions through her image: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Love, Surprise, Disgust, Guilt, Shame, and Envy. Each portrait in this collection is a unique representation of an emotion, crafted by the AI's interpretation of Kayla's features and expressions.
